Bare Engine workpiece materials and blanks

2025-07-23

Bare Engine mostly use high-strength 45 steel, 40Dr steel, etc. And improve cutting performance and impact resistance through quality adjustment treatment. The hardness requirement of 45 steel is HB217~293, 40Dr is HB223~280, and ductile iron and powder metallurgy technology are used to reduce the cost of blanks.

The blanks of Cummins Engine are generally produced by forging, and there are two forms of blanks: one is that the body and the cover are forged separately.
The other is to forge the body and the cover into a whole, and then cut or expand them using the expansion process during processing. In addition, in order to avoid blank defects, 100% hardness measurement and flaw detection are required.
